Desert Discovery Day
This special event is designed to spark curiosity and deepen appreciation for our desert environment through hands-on activities, interactive learning experiences and performances, led by local organizations dedicated to sharing the wonders of the Sonoran Desert. Guests will have the chance to explore desert plants and wildlife, discover cultural traditions, and engage in educational fun for all ages.
As part of the celebration, the Museum is offering pay-what-you-wish admission all day, ensuring that all families can enjoy the event as well as the exhibits inside the Museum. In addition to immersive activities, attendees can enjoy food from local food trucks Ensenada Street Food and Reservation Sensation.
Desert Discovery Day partners include Academy of Math and Science Prince, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, Cooper Center for Environmental Learning, Flandrau Science Center.
There will also be performances by Ballet Folklorico del Desierto and Mariachi Arizona, plus traditional Tohono O’odham Waila music by Gertie and the T.O. Boyz.
During the event, at about 11 am, the Museum will unveil its new Tree of Life mural, an art installation by Jeff Christensen and Maggie Mae Mosaics that honors the Museum’s 40th Anniversary.
